William Henry Lewis was born and raised in Southern California, where he studied at Art Center College of Design during the 1960’s. As a young adult he produced acrylics, oils and sculpture, between jobs he held as a hunting guide, boat skipper and commercial diver, on Catalina Island.

Sailing distant oceans and raising a family became the focus of his energy during the 1970’s and ‘80’s, and he left the world of art to the realm of the sea, harvesting sea urchin, abalone and crab.

In 1996, Will retired from his work on the ocean to resume his art career. He now lives in the redwood wilderness of Mendocino County, California, near the Navarro River, and this life experience and intimacy with nature are apparent in the beauty and classicism of his sculpture.

His passionate feel for the human figure, evident in his sculpture, is a synthesis between ancient classical forms and modern style.

Not theory, but the beauty of the human being lies at the center of Mr. Lewis' work. Each pose expresses one full moment of heart and mind.
